Closing Concert of Thomas Quasthoff’s Masterclass
Presented by Liszt Academy
Featuring: students from the Department of Vocal & Opera Studies
Thomas Quasthoff is one of the most respected singers of his generation. He completed his musical studies with Charlotte Lehmann and Ernst Huber-Contwig in Hanover. In 1988, he won the ARD competition in Munich. He was a frequent guest of the Berlin and Vienna Philharmonic Orchestras, regularly performed at Carnegie Hall, and collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Bernard Haitink, Mariss Jansons, Kurt Masur, Seiji Ozawa, Sir Simon Rattle, Helmuth Rilling, Christian Thielemann, and Franz Welser-Möst. The German bass-baritone announced in 2012 that he would no longer perform classical music, choosing instead to immerse himself in the world of jazz, a genre he had long preferred, and continued his singing career there. In the closing concert of his masterclass, the participants will showcase the musical ideas and technical solutions they have developed under Quasthoff’s guidance.
