József Balog is a devoted interpreter of the most demanding contemporary, 20th-century and Romantic piano compositions. With this concert, whose special programme compellingly illustrates Ferenc Liszt’s spiritual character and temperament as a pianist, he pays his tribute to the genius of the composer, who died 130 years ago. “There is a certain unaffectedness in this performance; it is impossible to reconstruct what made such carefree playing possible when what is to be played is without doubt difficult,” wrote a reviewer of József Balog’s Liszt album. “He has made this music his own to such an extent that Liszt’s masterpieces come to life almost involuntarily.” This great pianist has given concerts in over twenty countries on three continents, and has made a great many radio and CD recordings in Hungary. In 2005 he won the Liszt Grand Prix du Disque. In 2005 he won the Prix du Disque of the Ferenc Liszt Society.
