The Origin project is a collection of various cultures, music, traditions and inheritances shaping the life and art of Gwendolyn Masin. The violinist with ancestry rooted in Central-Eastern Europe (her mother’s side is Hungarian) comes from a family that boasts musicians over several generations, so she was always surrounded by music. “The way in which we make music is a lifestyle, a way of approaching life,” she says. Even as a wunderkind she gave concerts in many countries, since when she has had the chance to find out about numerous new cultures and music. She has students interested in new musical sounds, who appear – along with several highly gifted young Hungarian musicians – on stage at the Liszt Academy. The Origin programme comprises many of the artist’s most virtuoso pieces, the sort of works about which she felt that although music tastes may change, she has to preserve them for audiences of today and tomorrow.
