The MÁV Symphony Orchestra pays tribute to Mihály Mosonyi with this concert, who was born two hundred years ago on September 2, 1815. He was only a few years younger than Erkel and Liszt, but his career as a composer started much later. He was self-educated and studied music composition with great diligence. His piano concerto written in 1844 is a nicely written, tasteful piece, the harmonies and melodies bear the influence of Schumann, Chopin, and Mendelssohn. Ferenc Erkel composed his overture on the occasion of the National Theatre's 50th anniversary, which recalls a number of his older works. The third piece on the program is the Symphony No. 1. by Tchaikovsky written in 1866, which is a fine representative of the late Romanticism.
