The version for concert hall of the opera about Liszt (Excelsior!) by Gyula Fekete is a magnificent summation of the work. As one critic put it, the suite “projects the dramatic compass /of the entire work/, when the Liszt prayer is heard as the penultimate station, and the conclusion is fulfilled in an apparently deluded apotheosis which, seen from an earthly perspective, has a surreal impact. There is a very apparent lack of secondary characters: the pontiff, cardinal, Princess Carolyne, Cosima and Wagner”. However, Wagner will be present at the Budafok Dohnányi Orchestra concert, albeit indirectly. Guest conductor for the recital is Viennese Roberto Paternostro. The former student of Hans Swarowsky, György Ligeti and Christoph von Dohnányi and the assistant in Berlin of Herbert von Karajan has in recent times been the close colleague of great-granddaughter of Wagner, Katharina Wagner, famous for her groundbreaking stage direction.
