As a resident orchestra of Seoul Arts Center, with 100 outstanding orchestra and staff members including two composers-in-residence, and through more than 90 annual performances, KSO has been working to elevate the standing of Korean symphonic music for the past 30 years both domestically and abroad. What distinguishes KSO from any other Korean orchestras is a wide spectrum of its activities. Along with its own regular concerts and special programs on the main stages of the Seoul Arts Center, KSO has been also holding more than 40 annual ballet and opera performances over the years through the joint productions with Korea National Opera, Korean National Ballet and National Chorus of Korea, among others. It continues to expand its repertoire every year while maintaining an unrivalled domestic reputation in music for ballet and opera. For its concert in Budapest, KSO will perform Tchaikovsky’s symphony, one of its signature repertoires. Also, Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto will be performed by Christel Lee, first-prize winner of the 2015 International Jean Sibelius Violin Competition. Lee, born in Canada of Korean heritage and graduated from the Juilliard School and the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, has been actively working as a soloist and a chamber musician, appearing with orchestras such as the Finnish Radio Symphony, Bavarian Radio Symphony, Vancouver Symphony, Aspen Sinfonia, SWR-Stuttgart Radio Symphony, Korean Symphony and KBS Symphony.
