Dong Hyek Lim, the winner of numerous international competitions, is showing his mature musicality through the recordings and stage performances. His recent Chopin recording was acclaimed by Gramophone magazine as „sitting alongside classic accounts by Argerich, Rubinstein and Cortot without apology”. He supports a Hungarian virtuosic cellist Ildikó Szabó, the winner of Pablo Casals competition, and Suyoen Kim, a violinist who shows thoughtful interpretation of wide repertoire from Bach to Hartmann.
Suyoen opens the concert with solo piece by Isang Yun, the most important Korean composer in the 20th century. The piece composed for his granddaughter demonstrates Asian Yin-Yang concept with western technique. Suyoen Kim and Ildikó Szabó shows how Kodály crossed the border of folk music and classical music with his duo piece. Two elegant duo pieces by Schubert follow them. We find the sheer beauty in Violin sonata in D major by young Schubert. Eight years later, he created another kind of spotless artistry for Arpeggione while struggling with his illness.
