Zeynep Üçbaşaran (piano)
Turkish pianist Zeynep Üçbaşaran also honed her instrumental skills in Hungary: between 1987 and 1994 she studied at the Liszt Academy in Budapest with Kornél Zempléni, Katalin Nemes, Balázs Kecskés and István Lantos. Her last visit to Hungary was in 2012, when she impressed audiences and critics alike with her Liszt recital at the Miskolc Opera Festival. In her Budapest concert, she will perform compositions by a Liszt pupil, Francesco (Faik Bey) della Sudda (1859–1940). Born into a prominent Istanbul family of pharmacists of Italian descent, Della Sudda studied with Liszt for a few years in the early 1880s and gave a concert tour of Britain in 1894–95, where he was described by the press as ʻthe great Turkish pianist’. Zeynep Üçbaşaran performs short character pieces by the pianist-composer.
