Berlioz: Symphonie fantastique » 3rd movement (Scene in the Field)
Excerpts from works by Beethoven and others
Featuring: Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Zsolt Tassonyi
Moderator: Dániel Mona
A matinée in the Grand Hall where you might want to bring an umbrella? Well, perhaps you’ll stay dry after all, but one thing’s for sure: in the third movement of Symphonie fantastique, Berlioz paints the approaching and receding storm so vividly that you can almost feel the gusts of wind and hear the thunder rolling across the sky. Amid this vast landscape, two shepherds call to each other – their tender dialogue rendered through Berlioz’s unique orchestration. In this concert, Dániel Mona and the Budapest Philharmonic Orchestra reveal the wonders hidden in this expansive slow movement. They’ll also explore how other composers have captured the sounds of nature in their music. In this third installment of the first Liszt Kidz Academy in the Grand Hall season, space and stereo sound become part of the storytelling. The tranquil pastoral scene offers a gentle pause, a moment of calm before the explosive finale, when our love story takes its tragic turn.
