Orchestra and Choir of the Age of Enlightenment
Conductor: Jonathan Cohen

As we approach Easter, the greatest international performers of early music will once again come to Budapest to perform Bach’s stirring music on the Passion of Christ. Arriving with a great line-up of soloists, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, which was founded in 1986, is one of the premier ensembles today that plays period instruments.

The conductor of the concert is a truly versatile artist: Jonathan Cohen is an outstanding cellist, harpsichordist and conductor, and is highly regarded both as a chamber musician and soloist. With Arcangelo, the ensemble he founded in 2010, he has appeared in the world’s most prestigious concert halls, and is a regular contributor to the performances of the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment. The 2024‒2025 concert season sees him conduct the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra as well through the St Matthew Passion, and make a return to the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in a production of Handel.

This concert of the Bartók Spring is presented by Müpa Budapest as a joint event with Liszt Academy.
