"When I first played from Béla Bartók’s For Children volumes in the beginning, I just couldn’t get along with the little pieces; somehow, I always had a sense of something missing after performing these works. Perhaps it was the missing variations or the further development of themes, which are often found in classical music styles. After playing these works to the end, I often felt that they should have just started. Later, when I started teaching from these volumes, we often improvised on an ostinato or a chord progression. The concert program is a selection from the four-volume work, during which I tried to represent different moods and characters. In the process, I attempted to collect the compositional techniques, structural and organizational principles that were essentially present in the short pieces." (Károly Binder)
