Liszt Academy’s Image Film Awarded in Chicago

27 April 2015

Liszt Academy’s image spot Lisztery – Music Here Lives won the Silver Hugo Award at the prestigious Chicago International Film Festival Television Awards, where it was qualified as best in the commercial and corporate design category.

The awarding ceremony took place on April 22nd in Chicago. Presented in 2015 January in several Hungarian television channels, BBC, Mezzo and YouTube, the image film has been primarily intended for a target audience of culture consumers who as an integral part of their lifestyle no longer go to classical music concerts, yet are open to new and original experiences. Therefore, the film does not attempt to condense into 40 seconds the traditions of the institution founded 140 years ago, but instead to represent the cathartic energy of the music born in the Liszt Academy and the unique atmosphere of the Grand Hall.

The image spot is “a 40-second compact short story, and as such it is purposive and targeted, with no intention of formulating the wholeness. But naturally, it draws on the entirety of the Liszt Academy, expressing its unique quality and the fact that music actually lives here: it is born within these walls day by day, and is relived by each and every student, from exam to exam,” said Imre Szabó Stein, the creative director of the film. The creative concept of the image spot was conceived by the communications director and, on the part of the creative agency of the Liszt Academy, Róbert Gács, and its director is Dávid Géczy. Composed by multiple prize winner Bence Kutrik, the music of the film was performed by the Musiciens Libres chamber ensemble, specially augmented for this occasion, and the audience of the music palace on Liszt Ferenc Square was also invited to participate actively in the making of the spot.

Founded in 1964, the prestigious Chicago International Film Festival has held a special television competition since 2003. The objective of the Television Awards is to honor the outstanding creativity and technical solutions of television commercials and productions, recognizing their preeminent role in communications. Productions are evaluated in terms of not only their creative concept and technical execution but also cost efficiency. The high prestige of the award is indicated by the fact that each year the world’s finest and most innovative commercials compete in the television advertising category, the winners of past years including the films of such global brands as FIAT and Discovery Channel.

“I have not expected such an honor, and I see this as an international recognition of our efforts to open a new trend in the communications of classical music,” said Imre Szabó Stein about the award. Dr. Andera Vigh, President of the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music, added: “It is a great honor and success for our institution to have received the Silver Hugo Award. I am especially pleased that only a few days after winning the Europa Nostra Award, the Liszt Academy has been presented with yet another prestigious international prize. I trust that our corporate identity materials to come will achieve similar success in the communications and music profession alike.

The brand communication of the Liszt Academy has been awarded numerous professional prizes in recent years, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award acknowledging the design achievements of the world’s leading brands, which was granted to the Liszt Academy in 2014. The single-evening concert sheets of the Liszt Academy received the Bronze Blade as category winner in the Golden Blade competition of 2014, and won second prize in the 2013 Media Design competition. In December 2014 the evening concert leaflet series of the Liszt Academy won first prize in the Kreatív Craft Award organized by the Kreatív Magazine.
