Description of subject:
Vocal-based training of the musical skills
This class aims at the training of general musicianship skills through singing and through the systematic use of relative solmization, rhythm syllables and Kodály’s pedagogical compositions. Skills to be developed are: rhythm, unison and part-singing, inner hearing, musical reading, musical dictation, memory, polyphonic skills, vocal improvisation, sense of form as well as the development of stylistic knowledge.

Movement class
This class will introduce participants to the most important aspects of creative pedagogy developed by Klára Kokas, one of Hungary’s most inspiring music pedagogues, who proved that the Kodály concept of music education is not a closed educational system but it can be complemented by various progressive pedagogical approaches. The most distinct feature of the Kokas pedagogy is the free movement improvisation to classical master works or folk music all of which creates a unique opportunity for the development of listening competencies and self-expression.

Workshop in music pedagogy (for music teachers and choral music educators)
This workshop will offer participants an insight into the practical adaptation of the Kodály concept in the teaching of music for young people (ages 5 to 18) both in formal and informal educational settings. Topics include: developing of singing skills, teaching of rhythmic and melodic concepts as well as singing in parts.

Voice training (basic, intermediate and advanced)
Open class for all the participants in 60 minutes daily (and for special request, individual lessons in 30 minutes) offers knowledge about the vocal process and thorough warm-up of the voice – the main musical medium in Kodály-based work. Students learn the physiology of the voice and techniques of posture, breath management, phonation, resonant tone production, diction, and expression. During the “flash course”, participants have a possibility to study solo vocal works by Kodály with piano.

Piano coaching (basic, intermediate and advanced)
Open class for all the participants in 60 minutes daily (and for special request, individual lessons in 30 minutes) The aim of these sessions is to help students achieve a state of ‘’possessing’’ the instrument in a way that technical hindrances do not prevent the players from expressing their innermost musical thoughts of the piece. The course will also create a unique opportunity to develop stylistic awareness when performing classical piano repertory.

Choral conducting workshop (basic, intermediate and advanced)
This workshop assists participants in the acquisition of reliable and applicable musical and technical skills necessary for the performance of a wide range of choral works. Special attention is given to the development of conducting gestures and the pedagogical facilities needed for successful choir direction.
