János Pallagi dies at 91
Liszt award-winning professor of the Liszt Academy dies at the age of 91 on October 18, 2013.
János Pallagi was born in Budapest on October 2, 1922. He studied violin at the Liszt Academy of Music between 1940-1946 under Ede Zathureczky. He was a professor first at the Conservatory in Győr and then in Budapest from 1946 to 1965. From 1977 he was a university professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music. From 1972 to 1982 he taught at the Austrian Internationale Kammermusiktage Raumberg. He was the concertmaster of the Hungarian State Symphony Orchestra (at present: Hungarian National Philharmonic Orchestra) between 1971 and 1980, regularly performing in sonata and chamber music recitals in the meantime. He was awarded the Liszt Prize in 1957.
A Requiem Mass for the Eternal Repose of the soul of our beloved will be celebrated at St Teresa of Avila Parish Church on November 7, 2013 commencing at 5pm. The Roman Catholic Funeral Service will be held in the Makovecz Mortuary Chapel at the Farkasréti Cemetary on November 8, 2013 commencing at 9.45am
