Free-of-charge concerts and guided building tours on the Open Day of EU Developments

24 October 2016

On 29 October, the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music is welcoming its visitors with concerts and guided building tours within the framework of the event series of the Open Day of EU Developments.

This is the fifth time that this programme series has taken place. It gives the opportunity to visitors to have a glimpse into what is behind the scenes of the most fascinating EU development projects out of the tens of thousands ventures co-financed by the Union.  At the Central Hungary regional opening of the event series, the guests of the Liszt Academy will have the chance to personally witness the unparalleled acoustics of the Grand Hall renovated from a budget of 13 billion Hungarian forints and will also have the opportunity to see some exclusive areas of the institution, such as the backstage or the classrooms of the university.

As the „overture” of the programme series, on 29 October, at 10am, following the welcome addresses of the hosts of the institution, the audience will first hear some of the details of the renovation process of the Liszt Academy, will then be guided into the worlds of classical, folk and jazz music by the performers of the gala concert: first, Dávid Popper’s Hungarian Rhapsody will be staged by two extraordinarily talented students of the academy, Eszter Karasszon (violoncello) and Imre Dani (piano), which will be followed by Liszt’s  highly demanding Les jeux d'eaux à la Villa d’Este and György Cziffra’s virtuoso Improvisions of the Blue Danube (Strauss) played by the Liszt Award winning pianist, János Balázs. The subsequent performance will be given by the Head of the Jazz Department of the Liszt Academy, Károly Binder and his trio, and finally, at the end of the concert, Ágnes Herczku and Nikola Parov will take to the stage.

In the course of the guided building tours combined with a mini-concert and video screening, visitors can become familiar with the history of the Liszt Academy, its unique Art Nouveau concert halls and edifice as well as have a glance into the backstage areas of the Grand Hall and the Solti Hall or into the rooms where university instruction takes place. Besides the Main Building at Liszt Ferenc Square, also the new campus site, the Ligeti Building in Wesselényi Street will be open to the public. This building operating since 2011 does not only provide the students and tutors of the university with professional class – and rehearsal rooms, also the service and functional department offices are located there.
