Dénes Várjon in concert with soloists of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe
On 29 October, the works of Mozart, Janáček, Schubert and Dvořák will be performed in the Grand Hall of Liszt Academy – with wind instruments also featured in addition to piano and strings.
Pianist Dénes Várjon is a regular guest of Liszt Academy's Chamber Music Tuned for Grand Hall series. This time he will take the stage with soloists of the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, each half featuring works by a Viennese and a Czech composer, respectively.
Mozart's Piano Quintet in E flat major opens the special evening, followed by Janáček's Concertino, originally conceived as a piano concerto, in which the composer reduced the orchestra to a few winds and strings: a relatively rare arrangement in chamber music.
After the intermission, Schubert's ethereal Notturno in E flat major, written in the last year of his life, will be played, followed by Dvořák's Piano Quintet No 2 (A major), which has become one of the most popular works in the genre. The slow movement is named Dumka, an expression of Ukrainian origin that served as a collective name for sung epic ballads and inspired not only him but also many other Slavic composers.
Esterházy Foundation of Hungary, co-organizer of the concert, continues the tradition of the historical family in supporting artistic events and is keen on working with organizations that promote a thought-provoking combination of tradition and contemporary art for today's audiences.
Pianist Dénes Várjon will be joined on stage by soloists from the world-famous Europe Chamber Orchestra: Lorenza Borrani, Maia Cabeza (violin), Nimrod Guez (viola), Richard Lester (cello), Kai Frömbgen (oboe), Johannes Peitz (clarinet), Rie Koyama (bassoon) and Szabolcs Zempléni (horn).
Tickets for the evening are still available at the Liszt Academy’s ticket office and on its website.
