Composition Department in Chicago

Doctoral students of the Liszt Academy representing the Composition Department staged lectures and concerts under the leadership of Gyula Fekete between 3-12 October.

Head of department Gyula Fekete, doctoral and Junior Prima Prize winning composition students Máté Bella, Árpád Solti and András Gábor Virágh, as well as pianist doctoral student Péter Kiss represented the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music on the overseas visit. Our composers held lectures at the departments of composition of Northwestern University, Columbia College and University of Chicago. András Gábor Virágh gave organ recitals at Millar Chapel, Evanston and St. Chrysostom's Episcopal Church, Chicago, while Péter Kiss performed at Lutkin Hall, Northwestern University and Fulton Hall, University of Chicago, furthermore, he spoke at Columbia College. Both played works by Hungarian composers.

 

 

As part of an exchange programme set up with the support of The Hungary Initiatives Foundation, Marta Ptaszynska, professor of music composition at University of Chicago, visited Budapest between 15-17 September, while Jay Alan Yim, Hans Thomalla and Eliza Brown, professors of composition at Northwestern University, visited the Liszt Academy between 20-22 October, where they held music composition courses, and participated in a joint concert of contemporary music by the two universities.
